01 / The pattern

What I kept noticing

I am a therapist and behavioural counsellor at heart. Over the years I kept seeing the same pattern in the people I worked with: stress leads to comfort-seeking, comfort-seeking leads to weight gain, weight gain wears down self-esteem, and low self-esteem feeds anxiety and low mood.

For some people the loop ends in type 2 diabetes, which becomes a physical stressor of its own. It is a loop, not a coincidence.

  1. StressLong days, pressure, little recovery
  2. Comfort-seekingFood, sugar, late nights
  3. Weight gainSlowly, then all at once
  4. Low self-esteemAvoiding mirrors, photos, plans
  5. Anxiety and low moodWhich brings more stress
  6. Type 2 diabetes, for someItself a new physical stressor
…and the loop starts again.
Your mind and body are not separate patients. They are the same person, talking to each other all the time.
02 / Why metabolic rehab

I don't treat a diagnosis. I treat you.

That is why I specialised in metabolic rehabilitation, to help with weight loss and diabetes remission. Not as a separate service, but as the other half of your mental health.

03 / My own story

I had to break the loop myself

Long shifts, rushed meals and stress I never dealt with took me to 96 kg, about 20 kg heavier than I had been, with an HbA1c of 12.1. I was weak, slept badly, healed slowly and was irritable in a way that was not me.

So I became my own patient and followed a medically structured plan, not a fad. I worked my way to remission, and today I am well enough to hike and live fully.

If you are stuck in that loop, I would love to help you break it.

The same way I broke mine. Start with a conversation, or check where you stand first.
